A well designed clock still has a given place in today’s interiors, I would say, regardless of our increasingly digital lives. A good clock has the benefits of clearly displaying the current time – there is no need to wake your phone’s display or asking your digital assistant for the time. A quick glance towards the clock will show you all you need to know, time wise.
En väldesignade klocka tycker jag fortfarande har en given plats i dagens inredning, trots den ökade digitaliseringen av våra liv. En bra klocka har ju fördelen att den visar tiden – man behöver inte väcka skärmen på sin telefon eller fråga sin digitala assistent för att att ta reda klockan. En snabb titt mot klockan så får man reda på allt man behöver veta i fråga om tiden.
Many museum shops have good ranges of beautiful and thoughtfully designed products, and MoMA Design Store is a great example of that. Their sections of clocks and other time pieces display a good range and I found some new favourites that I would like to tell you about. Let’s start with a well designed, but still inconspicuous clock, the Dandelion Clock:

It is designed by Studio Nendo and it is liberatingly free from any numbers or other unnecessary information. Instead, each hour is represented with an illustration.

Following the grey theme, but switching from analog to digital, there is the Alume Cube Clock:
I samma grå tema, men med förändringen från det analoga till det digitala, har vi klockan Alume Cube Clock: 
It is designed by Natalie Sun and in the shape of a fairly small cube. Apart from the aluminium finish shown here , it is available in wood finish, as well as three different colours. The LED display is not illuminated all the time, but it can be switched on by snapping your fingers or by tapping on the top of the cube. Apart from displaying the time, it can also show the date and temperature.
Den är designad av Natalie Sun och är formad som en ganska liten kub. Förutom aluminiumfinishen som visas här finns den också i träutseende eller i tre olika färger. LED-displayen är inte tänd hela tiden, men den kan tändas upp genom att knäppa med fingrarna, eller genom att peta på klockans ovansida. Förutom att visa tiden kan den också visa datum och temperatur.
Uniting the digital and analog features, there is the Analog Digital Desk Clock:

The analog time telling is done with the help of the digital dots lighting up to form the analog clock face. The display of this clock is also lit up through sound activation, by clapping your hands or tapping the front of the clock. When the room it is placed in goes quiet, it will switch off its display.
Tiden visas analogt i form av digitala punkter som tänds för att forma en urtavla. Displayen på den här klockan tänds också genom att den aktiveras av ljud, genom att klappa i händerna eller genom beröring, att peta på klockan. När rummet som klockan är i blir tyst kommer klockan att slå av displayen.
Finally, if none of the above clocks appealed to your taste, there is the equally beautiful and technically advanced Etch Clock:

It may appear simple at first glance, time displayed with digital numbers, but every thirty seconds the clock face is wiped clean in preparation of displaying the correct time. The surface is made from a thermo elastic membrane that alters to form the different digits. The Etch Clock is designed and engineered in Switzerland, designed by Johnny Vaccaro and Gilles Caprari. The Etch Clock can be hung on a wall, placed leaned free standing and can alternate between 12 or 24 hour time, but also be programmed to react to sound.
Den kan verka enkel till en början, tiden visas med digitala siffror, men var trettionde sekund blir urtavlan helt blank för att sedan visa rätt tid igen.
